Prayer Groups
Prayer Group at FCCNH meets Mondays at 9:30 a.m. and Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. If you feel a calling to pray for others, desire a more fulfilling prayer life and would like to commit to it, you are welcome.
The power of prayer is well known among Christians now throughout history.
Psalm 91:14-15 “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer. I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them.”
Prayer is a pathway to these things.
You may submit prayers of need or thanksgiving on blue/green/beige cards from Sunday services, call or e-mail the church office or send prayers through members of the prayer group or congregation members. You may put prayer cards in the prayer cabinet outside the office as well. Your prayers are kept confidential. We pray daily with you for the week you submit the prayer. The long heritage of FCCNH's Prayer Group has revealed the power of prayer through the many answers we have received, and we are ready to support you and/or your loved ones in prayer.
For more information, please contact Sheri Izzard by contacting the church office or email sheriz13@verizon.net
Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry
Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry (HTSM) is healing prayer that affirms the rich tradition of Jesus’ healing ministry as well as the traditional role of the church in healing and anointing with prayer and touch. “Is any among you sick? Call for the elders of the church and have them pray… and anoint with oil.” (James 5:14) We come seeking healing, and we come to learn how to bring that healing with us into the world. Join us for this group designed for beginners and the experienced alike.
The class is lead by Rev. Louise Sloan-Goben who is a certified practioner and instructor of HTSM
Join us on the second Wednesday night of each month from 8:00 - 9:00pm, following the 7:00pm service of Guided Meditation in the Chapel.
Retreats
Spirit of the Foothills: a Center for Spiritual Formation
A developing ministry of First Christian Church, Spirit of the Foothills seeks to serve individuals and groups in a retreat-like setting for prayer, meditation or events. Currently we offer monthly Labyrinth meditation walks, yoga classes and 6:00 am cardio-workout classes. We believe in the power of the Arts to transform lives and communities, and are developing courses for creative expression and spiritual growth. This includes theater, visual arts, dance and music. We are seeking funding to build a permanent outdoor labyrinth, which will be open to the community, and to offer courses in Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry.
We are located at 4459 Lowell Ave in La Crescenta, just below Foothill Boulevard, about ½ mile north of the #210 freeway. It is easily accessed from both the San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley and the greater Los Angeles areas. For more information or to use this space, contact Rev. Louise Sloan Goben through the church office 818-763-8218. Please visit our Facebook Page. Our web site is being developed as we speak!
Spirit of the Foothills shares space with the Los Angeles (Korean) Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.)

Disciples Women
Disciples Women, also known as Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF), is what the name implies. It is Christian, it is Women and it is Fellowship. Every woman member of the church is automatically a CWF member. CWF actively supports worldwide missions from contributions from its members at monthly meetings, luncheon meetings, candy sales, jewelry and bake sales during the year. They are also a part of the Disciples Women of the Pacific Southwest Region.
At present the CWF is separated into three groups.
- Groups 1 & 2 meet the second Thursday of the month in the daytime at the home of a group member. Both groups take a summer break.
- Group 3 meets monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at 7pm in the Youth Hut.
All 3 groups have outreach projects. Below are the current projects:
- Pop Top Collection - Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) collect pop tops from drink cans and other cans for recycle to earn money for their charity. We are honored to participate in this simple way to make a difference to the families and children supported by RMHC. A receptacle is located in the Narthex.
- Hygiene kit: In the face of natural disasters, violence, or grinding poverty, Hygiene Kits can mean the difference between sickness and health for struggling families. Donations include:hand towel (measuring approximately 16" x 28"), washcloths, wide-tooth combs, nail clippers, bar of soap (bath size in wrapper), toothbrushes (in original packaging)
- Baby care kit: In areas of extreme poverty or following a natural disaster, Baby Care Kits help young mothers care for their newborn babies. Donations include: cloth diapers, T-shirts or undershirts (no onesies), washcloths, gowns or sleepers, sweater or sweatshirt, receiving blankets. Items must be new and under 12 months in size.
YADA - Young Adult Disciples in Action
YADA is more than just an opportunity to meet others of one’s own age group who attend worship at FCCNH, it is also an opportunity to develop long lasting and meaningful spirit-filled friendships. In addition to social outings there is time for community service, as well as deeper reflection and study.
There is no set schedule of meetings or outings right now. Email us with your contact information at fccnh@earthlink.net and we will add you to the mailing list. Also, find us as a group on Facebook, YADA-FCCNH.

Advent Theater Group
First Christian Church North Hollywood is home to a flourishing theater company. Our church family is blessed with some outstanding professional talent from the entertainment industry and some of the finest and bravest amateur talents around. We are a non-profit entity, which supports the work of the church through the arts, bringing laughter, joy inspiration and consciousness to our church. Productions are usually performed twice a year, in the spring and in the fall.
Please visit our Advent Theater page for information on our current production.
Athletics
Fun and fellowship! It's as simple as that. This slogan was developed for the softball team "Fun and Fellowship on the Diamond." It's had such a lasting impact and describes the spirit that we carry into in each season that we're using it here. Each sporting endeavor becomes a place where one can feel encouraged and lifted-up in fun and with fellowship. We currently have a softball team which plays in the Valley Christian Athletic League and hold our Annual Turkey Shoot, a pre-thanksgiving day outing, on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. All events are coed and we encourage our church family to attend and to bring friends, as it is a great way to bond and to become acquainted with one another.
Please contact the church office or check the calendar for upcoming events.
Heritage Class
This is a six-week class especially designed for new church members or those who are contemplating church membership. It is also a good review class for long time members of our church family. Classes are held in the Fall & Spring. Please check the calendar for dates or contact the church office.
Creative Outlets
Please check our calendar for different classes that are offered throughout the year. Currently we have a Tai Chi class.
