Council of Ministries

A colleague recently described our church family as "the most rugged group of individualists in any church anywhere."  Indeed we never forget that we follow the most rugged individualist ever to live on the face of the earth.  The individuality and strength of Jesus is our daily inspiration.

One of the things which has always impressed me about this wonderful, crazy, dedicated family is their deep respect for one another.  Our fellowship is comprised of practically every religious background known to humanity.  Typical of our heritage, it may well be said that "where two or three are gathered, there are two or three definite opinions."

The slogan of our denominational founders in the early 19th century takes on additional meaning.

"In essentials, unity: in non-essentials, liberty:
in all things, love."

We are a loving group of individuals, drawn into a powerful fellowship through the essential which unifies us, our dedication to Jesus Christ as our Lord.

Many of the programs and events within our church family reflect an individualistic spirit.  When we celebrated our 60th anniversary as a congregation, we adopted a slogan. "A church in the heart of the community with the community at its heart." Our community is the world.  Our concept of ministry is not only that which takes place in Southern California, but what takes place everywhere in the world.
