First Christian Church of North Hollywood is looking for an excellent organist & pianist to play in our weekly services as well as accompany weekly Chancel Choir rehearsals. Our ideal candidate will be experienced in playing our Schantz Opus 1110/Rodgers hybrid pipe organ, adept in sacred, classical, choral, and contemporary music, an accomplished musician, a good sight-reader, and an excellent communicator. We desire a person who is Christian and will assist our Music Director in programming liturgical music to create interesting and moving worship experiences. 

The Organist/Pianist will be organized, personable, and able to interact with a large community, including the Music Director, Chancel Choir, guest musicians, soloists and small groups, the Children’s Music Director, children, the online worship and sound team, church staff and committees, as well as those plannings weddings, funerals, or other special occasions. 

Title:               CHURCH ORGANIST/PIANIST

Work Load:   Average 6–8 hours per week, recognizing that at certain times of the year (e.g., Christmas, Easter) your position will require more hours

Education:     Bachelor’s degree in music from an accredited college or university, Master’s degree preferred

Skills:             Expertise in playing the Schantz Opus 1110/Rodgers hybrid pipe organ and piano

    Familiarity of classical and religious organ repertoire

    Strong sight reading and ability to play choral parts 

    Excellent accompanist to choir, singers and instrumental soloists

              Ability to work with and teach choral group parts

Bonus Skills:  Writing and/or arranging music

     Playing another instrument

     Singing

Experience:    Three to five years experience as Church organist/pianist

Reports To:     Senior Pastor, Music Director and Staff Council

Salary:             $12,500 -$15,000, depending on overall skills and experience

Start Date:       September 2024

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work under the direction of the Music Director to plan music for weekly worship service(s)
  • Play organ or piano as needed for liturgical music, choir, soloists and small groups
  • Attend weekly choir rehearsals (90 min); assist with teaching music by playing vocal parts as needed
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other accompanist and musicians for weekly services
  • Assist in appropriation of subs as needed
  • Assist in hire of additional musicians when needed for special events such as concerts and services such as Easter, Christmas, etc.
  • Additional services include but are not limited to the following: Holy Week (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and 3 Easter services); Christmas Eve Family and Candlelight services
  • Participate in a Christmas concert (some longer or additional rehearsals required)
  • Coordinate with the online worship team audio department as needed
  • Coordinate with and assist Children’s Music Director as needed
  • May include other duties as directed by the Senior Pastor (i.e.: Memorial services)
  • Assist in coordination of organ and piano maintenance and tuning
  • Schedule personal rehearsal time in preparation for rehearsals and worship services.
  • Provide additional support for weddings, memorial services, etc., for additional compensation
  • Rehearse with soloists/small groups as needed before/after choir rehearsal and during soundcheck in preparation for special music performances (part of regular weekly Sunday service)
